This project consisted of a 7,000sqm extension and refurbishment of the UCC Boole Library to provide a postgraduate library that reflects the standard of accommodation required for such a key facility. Davis Langdon contributed to the design team with option appraisals (incl. appraisals relating to sustainable & energy efficient design). Eg. We reviewed the cost of ground source heat pumps VS traditional heating solutions, the cost of natural ventilation VS air conditioning, etc.

Davis Langdon introduced a ‘Rolling Final Account’ solution, whereby we agreed claims immediately (et. the rock), thereby bringing real certainty of financial outcome to UCC during construction works. Without this, the final account may have been higher. DLPKS’s input in the initial planning of the phases of the library, when multiple phasing was required and the potential for budge ‘drift’ was very real, meant the design team firmly fixed the phases, and the tender reflected a real scenario.
